ASAM Calls on Congress to Pass the SUPPORT Reauthorization Act

In coalition with the Mental Health Liaison Group, ASAM signed onto a letter urging members of the House Energy & Commerce Committee to pass the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 2483) out of committee. The letter was sent to Chairman Brett Guthrie and Ranking Member Frank Pallone prior to the Committee's scheduled markup of the legislation on April 8, 2025.

Reauthorization of SUPPORT would enhance substance used disorder (SUD) treatment for patients and allocate resources to grow and strengthen the addiction treatment workforce. 

Despite the recent decline in overdose deaths, the letter notes that fentanyl-related deaths are still alarmingly high. To address SUD and the co-occurrence of mental health conditions, the coalition calls on Committee members to quickly pass the SUPPORT Act.
