On March 18, ASAM submitted a comment letter to the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding the Special Registrations for Telemedicine and Limited State Telemedicine Registrations proposed rule. The proposed rule outlines a pathway for prescribers to obtain a special registration for prescribing controlled medications via telemedicine if they can demonstrate a legitimate need.
In the comment letter, ASAM provides two key recommendations to improve the rule. This includes recommending that the DEA add another prescribing eligibility category for practitioners who are addiction medicine physicians or board certified in the treatment of addiction.
