ASAM Calls on Congress to Pass the Reentry Act and Due Process Continuity of Care Act
ASAM has joined a sign-on letter urging House and Senate leadership to pass the Reentry Act (H.R. 2400 / S. 1165) and Due Process Continuity of Care Act (H.R. 3074 / S. 971), which aim to expand treatment access and decrease overdose deaths amongst incarcerated individuals.
Specifically, the Reentry Act would allow an individual to receive Medicaid coverage beginning 30 days before release. The Due Process Continuity of Care Act would grant Medicaid coverage while an individual is awaiting trial.
These bills aim to expand the availability of SUD treatment to a particularly vulnerable patient population; data show that fatal drug overdoses are the fastest growing cause of death amongst incarcerated individuals.
ASAM was joined by more than 65 organizations representing healthcare providers, law enforcement professionals, public health experts, and others. Read the full letter here.
