Stakeholders Ask Administration to Rescind $75 Limit in StimUD Treatment

A group of over fifty stakeholders and leaders called on the Biden Administration to rescind a $75 'cap' per patient per budget year on incentives in contingency management for treating stimulant use disorder (StimUD). This limit is cited in two recent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) for State Opioid Response and Tribal Opioid Response totaling $2 billion in grant funding. The letter also asks the Administration to direct SAMHSA to re-issue these NOFOs permitting use of evidence-based amounts for incentives in contingency management. Scientific and policy experts have expressed concerns with this limit unnecessarily obstructing effective treatment for StimUD.
