ASAM Opposes Bill Allowing U.S. Post Office to Ship Beverage Alcohol
ASAM joined several other organizations in a letter to the leadership of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability opposing the U.S. Shipping Equity Act (H.R. 3721) that would allow the U.S. Post Office (USPS) to ship beverage alcohol. Such a change would undermine the current system of alcohol control and increase the market for unsafe, unlicensed, tainted, or counterfeit products. Furthermore, if enacted, the legislation could exacerbate underage alcohol consumption and put the USPS in the position of monitoring and enforcing state-specific laws.
