On February 28th, ASAM signed onto a letter with hundreds of organizations to Senators Debbie Stabenow and John Boozeman, Chairwoman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and Representatives Glenn Thompson and David Scott, Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture, asking them to remove a lifetime ban that prevents individuals convicted of a drug felony from receiving Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families TANF) as part of the next Farm Bill.

ASAM Signs Onto Letter Calling For Congress to Repeal the Lifetime Ban That Prevents Individuals With A Past Felony Drug Conviction From Receiving SNAP or TANF Benefits

On February 28th, ASAM signed onto a letter with hundreds of organizations, to Senators Debbie Stabenow and John Boozeman, Chairwoman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, and Representatives Glenn Thompson and David Scott, Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Committee on Agriculture, asking Congress to remove a lifetime ban that prevents individuals convicted of a drug felony from receiving Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families TANF) as part of the next Farm Bill. These program benefits, which provide minimal, supplemental support during times of financial hardship and food insecurity, are generally provided to individuals and families that generally live below 200% of the federal poverty line.
