ASAM encourages you to use your voice, expertise, and knowledge to increase addiction prevention, treatment, remission, and recovery through volunteer opportunities. Here you will find opportunities to serve on ASAM’s councils, committees, subcommittees as well as task force groups. Terms of service can be short or long-term depending on the charge of the group.

Opportunities will be posted throughout the year so come back often to see what is available. ASAM Committees and Councils are comprised of members only. Subcommittees, Writing Committees, and Task Forces may be comprised of members and non-members.
Co-Editor, Journal of Addiction Medicine
Working closely with JAM’s esteemed editorial team, the Co- Editor will play a pivotal role in supporting the Editor-in-Chief's strategic vision and leadership for our rapidly growing journal. Strong candidates will possess an MD, DO, PhD degree or equivalent, and be a leader in scientific research, clinical practice, and/or academia.
Estimated Time Required: 4-6 hours/week. Co-Editors receive an annual stipend. Read more and apply here.
ASAM Criteria Strategy Steering Committee

The ASAM Criteria Strategy Steering Committee is seeking experts in addiction medicine, particularly in adolescent treatment and training of treatment professionals. Knowledge in health disparities across the addiction medicine field is preferred. Click the link below to learn more and apply.

Adolescent Criteria Volume Case Writers CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
We are seeking volunteers with experience working with adolescents to help sketch out adolescent case studies for The ASAM Criteria, Fourth Edition, Adolescent Volume. These case studies will be used to test the Dimensional Admission Criteria. Volunteers will be provided with a template and given general guidelines on what kind of case to sketch out, depending on their area of expertise. We anticipate sketches to be approximately 1 page in length.
Volunteers will be acknowledged in the contributors’ section of the Adolescent Volume.

JAM Accepting Applications for Editorial Fellowships (2025-2026)
Three Fellows will be accepted to serve two years as JAM Editorial Fellows. Fellows will obtain extensive experience in manuscript review and scientific peer-reviewed publishing in addiction medicine. please Download the full job description and application link here.
