ASAM Partners with Train for Change to Provide ASAM Level of Care Certification Consulting Services
June 30, 2021 (Rockville, MD) – The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) announces a new partnership with Train for Change, a trusted training and consulting organization, to provide consulting services for the ASAM Level of Care Certification delivered in partnership with CARF International (CARF).
The ASAM Level of Care Certification addresses the addiction health crisis by establishing processes for validation of treatment program capabilities, building industry transparency, and increasing patient confidence in treatment services. The certification provides an independent assessment of a treatment program’s ability to deliver services consistent with The ASAM Criteria®. Increasing patient access to evidence-based addiction treatment is critical to overcoming the devastating and deadly challenges of addiction. This certification gives patients, loved ones, payors, and regulators the knowledge that a given treatment program is capable of administering evidence-based addiction treatment that is appropriately matched to a patient’s individual needs.
Train for Change, well known for providing training and consultation for addiction treatment programs, are evolving their existing consulting services to include preparation for the ASAM Level of Care Certification. The consulting services provided by Train for Change will be tailored to the organization with the goal of guiding and supporting successful conformance with the rating elements and standards necessary to achieve the certification.
“Partnering with Train for Change to offer consulting services around the ASAM Level Care of Certification enhances the consulting support available to treatment providers as they navigate the certification process, while also helping to standardize addiction treatment services nationwide,” said William F. Haning, III, MD, DLFAPA, DFASAM, president of ASAM. “Expanding the number of treatment programs using evidence-based approaches to addiction treatment is critical to saving lives. This partnership will effectively support providers’ efforts to operationalize The ASAM Criteria in their programs.”
“Train for Change is proud to partner with ASAM on this important initiative,” said Alyssa Forcehimes, PhD, president of Train for Change. “It is a logical expansion of our existing portfolio of services that help treatment programs implement evidence based best practices successfully into their daily operations. This impactful collaboration will significantly help treatment programs provide life-saving care to patients and support efforts to overcome the devastating effects of addiction in our communities.”
Train for Change will offer customized support and guidance in understanding the six service characteristics of The ASAM Criteria and how they are addressed within the ASAM Level of Care Certification Workbook and the ASAM Level of Care Certification Manual. CARF is currently accepting applications for certification from addiction treatment programs.

About Train for Change
Train for Change Inc.® is an international training, consultation and program evaluation company. Established in 2012, Train for Change Inc.® bridges the gap between knowledge of “what works” in addiction treatment and helping providers develop requisite skills in these practices for use in real world settings to achieve outcomes similar to those in randomized controlled trials. Participants practice skills at all service stages: assessment, engagement, service planning, continuing care and transfer/discharge and leave with a clear picture of what it looks like when the ASAM Criteria model is driving care. We deliver cutting-edge knowledge and skills to professionals, address barriers to implementation, offer novel opportunities for ongoing coaching to maintain skills, and ultimately transform the lives of the people we serve through improved clinical outcomes.
