Although it’s almost impossible to pinpoint the “most important” achievement of the first two decades of the twenty-first century, when the American Board of Medical Specialties publicly recognized the “multi-specialty subspecialty of addiction medicine” in March 2016, this marked the attainment of one of ASAM’s most dearly held goals.
