 Ruth Fox Scholarship

The American Society of Addiction Medicine wants to increase the opportunities for residents to learn about the diagnosis and treatment of alcoholism and other drug dependencies.  Once again, ASAM will be using some of the interest income from its Ruth Fox Memorial Endowment Fund to underwrite a limited number of scholarships for selected physicians-in-training to  participate in the Society’s annual conference.

38th Annual Medical-Scientific Conference
April 10-13, 2008
The Sheraton Center
Toronto, Ont., Canada

Scholarship will include travel, hotel, registration to the Ruth Fox Course, Medical-Scientific Conference, ASAM Awards Luncheon, a $50 per diem for five days, and one-year membership in ASAM.


   Awardees will be required to attend:
• Ruth Fox Course and Luncheon (Thursday)
• ASAM Welcome Reception (Thursday eve)
• Medical-Scientific Conference (Friday-Sunday)
• ASAM Annual Business Meeting Breakfast or Lunch (Friday)
• Ruth Fox Endowment Donor Reception (Friday eve) Scholarship recipients will be recognized
• ASAM Dessert Reception (Friday eve)
• ASAM Awards Luncheon (Saturday)

We will arrange for scholarship recipients to meet at the end of each day with committee and Board members.

As part of the application, we ask the resident for a statement of interest and for suggestions about how to incorporate training and clinical experiences into the residency.
  
Interested physicians should complete and submit the enclosed form by November 30, 2007  A letter from the Program Director on the training institution’s letterhead must accompany the form or be submitted separately by November 30, 2007  and must include the following information:


• Confirmation of applicant’s status in their training program.  How long in program?
• Statement about why they feel your application is meritorious.
• Suggestions how the American Society of Addiction Medicine might support training about substance use and substance dependence disorders in their program

Application must be received by November 30, 2007
Scholarships will be awarded and all applicants notified by January 20, 2008
